The current timetable
- 2 February 2025Article 5 prohibited practices and Article 4 AI literacy duties apply.
- 2 August 2025General-purpose AI model provider obligations apply.
- 2 August 2026General date of application; Article 50 transparency obligations apply.
- 2 December 2027Chapter III Sections 1 to 3 apply to high-risk systems under Article 6(2) and Annex III.
- 2 August 2028Corresponding high-risk requirements apply to systems under Article 6(1) and Annex I.

What is already in force matters now
Transparency duties for relevant AI interactions and generated content are live. AI literacy obligations for staff have applied since early 2025. Prohibited practices are enforceable. The high-risk deferral does not pause those obligations.
